The Ban-José Corporation is a for-profit, mostly Human-run intergalactic tech corporation owned and operated by Joseph Gemintry and headquartered on the Cage Station.

History

The Ban-José Corporation has its origins in engineering work Joseph performed while in service in the Armada of Namine's Fire. There, he would operate his own science and engineering division. His engineering handiwork, which included all sorts of modifications, custom weaponry, tools, and sometimes even ships, awarded him great notoriety within the ranks of the Armada. This notoriety continued even after the Gray Storm had been snuffed out, demonstrated as his work was sought out by various governmental and independent parties.

Economic gain and innovation for innovation's sake weren't the primary reasons for Joseph to establish the company, however. Joseph's mother, Judy Gemintry, had been stricken with the advanced stages of Corruption transformation. Her case was considered a lost cause by conventional science. She required continued, expensive, and experimental treatment to survive the onslaught of the nanites. Joseph would need exorbitant amounts of money to fund this treatment; money that could only be provided by a successful enterprise. Knowing his work was in demand, and that he could engineer new, innovative technology for a thriving post-Corruption intergalactic market, Joseph chose to start a company with help from his newfound friend and comrade, Rex.

Setting its headquarters in the Cage Station and using resources extracted from the Ghost Fleet, Joseph began engineering and selling new technology on the open market. At first, he took individual commission work. After making a breakthrough with his mother's condition, Joseph could accommodate a heavier workload at his company and began to accept contracts from organizations. Despite just barely avoiding disastrous controversy over its usage of the Ghost Fleet, the Ban-José Corporation remains profitable, affording Joseph a great deal of freedom in his endeavors.

Naming

The corporation's name has no bearing on its mission or products that it sells. The name is simply a reference to an old quarrel-turned-inside joke between Joseph and his sister Zoey. The name was chosen after Rex urged Joseph to find a more suitable name for his post-Armada upstart company than "Joseph and Co."

Trivia

  • The Ban-José Corporation's name is simultaneously a reference to, and modification of the "BanjOS" brand-name present in Tyler's Proto and Classic-Unbroken tech lore.
