Vera (otherwise known as Theta 1) is a member of the Vigilant and one of the four affiliated with Project Theta.

Appearance

  • Standing as a giant among common men, Vera towers over allies and enemies alike.
  • His lean and musclebound form is adorned in many naturally grown armored plates.
  • Behind his head plates sprouts a glorious feathered mane, now grayed with age.
  • His many scars each tell their own grand tale, and he would be more than happy to recall them for you, on occasion, in the form of an epic.
  • When Vera dawns his Sentinel suit [1] his appearance is famed to drive fear into the hearts of his foes, while inspiring his friends to fight through seemingly impossible odds with renewed courage.

Early History

Driven forward by visions of honor, and a greater glory, this veteran of a hundred battles has lived a very long life, and as such his many experiences forge who he is today. Ready to protect the innocent and bring justice to vile ways, Vera has always aspired to be like the hero-warriors of the Arbiters since he was just a mere child within their ranks. His determination and sheer willpower at a young age lead to a adoption of a hot-blooded personality. Always willing to take a risk to gain an extra tale to tell at the food hall. The day that the Virnok invaded the training world of Ward would be the day that would change the young knight's life forever. Tasked with first deployment (a position he was most proud of at the time for the bravery it required), Vera was to deploy with his battlegroup and evacuate the unproven young-blood's from the training facility in Taroth (the only city on the planet) before the enemy was able advance and slaughter them.

He found himself and his battlegroup surrounded by an impossibly sized war-band. Vera knew that if he and his team were to flee back into the academy, they'd surely all be hunted down and killed by the hunters, so he steeled himself and pushed through the enemy force. As the horde shredded his armor and tore flesh from bone with their crude weapons, Vera had created an escape route for his allies and the young-bloods to escape from. Unfortunately, he also knew that the Virnok were expert trackers and that they'd easily catch up with his party, especially since they had children running alongside them. They needed a distraction, else they were all going to be hunted down and killed. Comforting himself that this was a righteous cause to die for, Vera redoubled his resolve and continued fighting. His slaughter was to match the ones of legend, but in the end he was defeated by the unrelenting crocadilian advance. As the war party swarmed over him, he knew that his battlegroup was long gone, and that the young-bloods were safe from the clawed clutches of the Virnok.

He closed his eyes, and knew that his final display of courage would be told throughout the hall for ages to come, and that the individuals he saved would carry his name with them for the rest of their lives, eventually passing it on to the next generation. This would have been the end of the knight's tale, if not for the miracle that had occured that day. It felt as if he was being protected by a warrior angel, the warm glow had spread across his entire body. Only when a bright light bled through his closed eyes did he open them. The entire world burned around him in white hot fire. The Virnok were rendered into ash before his eyes, yet he did not feel the same burning agony as them. In the sky, an angelic being hung, casting down its fiery judgement through the palms of its hands. This was when Vera blacked out, leaving the entire conflict through the pain of his injuries.

He awoke once more on a stone floor[2]. Lifting his head and looking around, Vera found that he had been laid upon a circle of engraved stone. Ancient etchings carved deep into its surface in symbols foreign to his eyes. Upon hearing a series of whispers, he looked up to the ceiling and found that a great light shined down upon him from above. He could just barely make out the heads of a dozen people, each consorting with one another over things the knight could not hear. One of the figures slammed his fist down onto the table and stood.

"Rise, warrior." The large figure boomed. Although he initially thought that his wounds would prevent him from doing so, Vera was surprised to find that he felt fine as he rose to his feet. The figure looked around to his collaborators, each of them nodding in agreement. As he reached the last of them, he too nodded and looked down upon Vera once more. "Your actions on Taroth have not gone unheard by the Great Houses. Each of us have agreed that such talent and heroism would be wasted in death." he said. "It is with such in mind that we present you with this opportunity." With that, a light in front of him flashed on, illuminating a suit of ancient armor that appeared to hold out its mighty weapon to him.

For a brief instance Vera saw himself within the suit, vanquishing his foes with the pole-arm in the name of all that was good and righteous. A fire burned in his eyes as he reached forth, and touched the head of the poleaxe. "Know now that the path ahead of you is filled with danger, and that your trials will be nigh impossible." the figure boomed. Vera pried the weapon from the suit's metal fingers, a representation of what he was to become. He positioned the pommel within the center of the engraved stone platform, and took a knee, allowing the figures to begin the ceremony of initiation.

Notes

  1. while having some modifications of GOA design, it should be noted that the suit was most certainly not created by the Order.
  2. This, like many others within the Arbiters of Kiron, is an Order's history tablet. Typically etched out of marble, this slate holds the entire history of the specific Order through use of a written tale. As new events occur, new sections of etchings are added.
