(Decided to keep this form of travel. I think it serves a world-building purpose to keep it: it helps demonstrate that the Veil of Webs can made real-life theoretical scientific concepts possible. It shows the utility of the web, and helps establish the interplay between the "hard-science" elements of Unbroken and the more fictional. I reworded some phrases from the Einstein-Rosen-Veil page to update this one.)

The Alcubierre-Veil Warp Drive is a form of FTL that uses the Veil of Webs to circumvent physics and bend space, allowing for space-craft to travel faster than light without breaking the laws of physics in the Root Universe.

Function

The Alcubierre-Veil Warp Drive contracts space in front of a starship, and expands it behind the starship. This allows the vessel to arrive at its targeted point faster than light would by shifting space around the vessel, leaving the laws of physics unbroken. The drive necessitates the use of exotic matter--specifically negative mass--to achieve this effect. The only known way to spawn negative mass in the Root Universe is through Veil Manipulation. The Alcubierre-Veil Warp drive uses a Veil manipulator to pull strands from the Veil of Webs to spawn this negative mass exotic matter in real space. This form of FTL travel does not move a vessel directly through the Veil of Webs, but the use of the Veil to create the necessary exotic matter makes this form of FTL just as traumatic and dangerous as more typical Veil travel.

Trivia

  • This form of FTL has conceptual basis in real life theoretical physics as the Alcubierre drive.
  • The drive concept was created by theoretical physicist, Miguel Alcubierre.
