The Corruption Virus was the virus responsible for spreading the Corruption's grasp. It mutates tissue both dead and living, integrating the organism into the Corruption's hivemind.
While it was assumed extinct in 975 PRE, the Qualdron Alignment managed to engineer a new strain of the Corruption Virus from isolated Death Plague genes in 981 PRE for use as a bio-weapon in the Empire-Alignment War. This new Corruption strain was eventually wiped out by the Keilicaela Empire two years later. In 986 PRE, the Kraniir created a short-lived third strain for use in the Battle of the Boundary; this strain was unable to infect any organism and was wiped out over the course of the conflict.
