Blackened One

The Blackened Ones are the current dominant species on Drayanus. Over the course of tens of thousands of years, they have driven the Cherak, the planet's sole sapient life, into one city.

History

At current, little is known of the Blackened Ones' history. They emerged on Drayanus seemingly from nowhere, appearing suddenly and swiftly. The first day of their existence was spent annihilating a Cherak settlement--and every day since has been spent much the same.

Physiology

The physiology of the Blackened Ones comes with scant few details. Viewed from the sky, they appear as a mass of indistinguishable black (thus their name). No Cherak has seen a Blackened One face-to-face and survived. Their swarm behavior and their vocalizations heavily imply that the Blackened Ones are insectoid, but this has not been confirmed.

Implications on the Cherak Religion

A paradigm growing in popularity is that the Blackened Ones were sent by Kateus, the Cherak goddess, to destroy the species. Those who subscribe to this view believe that the Cherak have sinned and must submit to the Blackened Ones, open the gates to Zhil'kresa, and usher in the extinction of their own species.
